About
SLO Collaborative Practice Group
We are committed to the Collaborative Process, an approach to divorce where clients and professionals work together, respectfully and in good faith, to gather the information needed to reach mutally agreeable solutions.
Since 2015
SLO Collaborative Practice group (SLO CPG) was formed in 2015 to bring Collaborative Practice to the Central Coast. SLO CPG is a group of local professionals interested in avoiding court battles and power struggles to resolve conflicts.
Our Mission
Our mission is to educate the public about Collaborative Practice, to advance excellence in Collaborative Practice among our members, and to work together in multi-disciplinary teams to help people resolve divorce peacefully, respectfully, and out of court.
Team Approach
The group includes divorce attorneys, mental health counselors, neutral financial professionals and other types of experts who may be involved in a Collaborative Divorce Resolution Process. Our multi-disciplinary group is growing and is open to specific professionals interested in Collaborative conflict resolution.
brief history of Collaborative divorce
Collaborative Practice traces its roots back to Minneapolis, Minnesota in the early 1990s. The Collaborative approach began when Stu Webb, an attorney, announced to his clients and colleagues the he would no longer go to court; he would only represent clients in a participatory negotiation process aimed solely at creative settlements.
By early 1994, California family lawyers, mental health and financial professionals began practicing Collaborative law in a supportive and constructive way.
